The Indianapolis Arts Chorale, an auditioned community choir founded by Elise Marshall in 1972 and is now entering its 52nd season in Indianapolis. The Chorale has earned the praise of many for the quality and variety of its programming, and seeks to enrich its programming by performing extensive and varied vocal choral music with renowned composers and soloists.
The Chorale’s 40+ auditioned singers represent some of the finest talent in the state. The Chorale performs a three concert subscription series, as well as additional appearances at other venues around Indianapolis, such as the Penrod Arts Fair. Past concerts have included collaboration with many other arts organizations in Indiana, such as the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra, Ballet Internationale, Dance Kaleidoscope, and the Carmel Symphony Orchestra. The Arts Chorale has been part of the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s Concert Season during recent years, and performs with the support of the Clowes Fund, the Christel DeHaan Foundations, the Central Indiana Community Foundations, the Sunrise Foundation and the Arts Council of Indianapolis, among others. Season 48 will also include collaborating with the Actors Theatre of Indiana for the performance of Sweeney Todd at The Palladium.
The varied nature of the music presented, the flexibility of the ensemble, and the strong community outreach of the group distinguishes the Chorale from other choral organizations within the city. The Indianapolis Arts Chorale is a volunteer organization, but they are not amateurs; a devotion to excellence and a commitment to choral music and its future are the hallmarks of the organization, and have been for over 50 years.
